Goal setting for the new year
There’s no better feeling than achieving the goals that you’ve set for your business, #kickinggoals, and setting business goals gives you that extra bit of clarity and focus when deciding what you’re going to be doing with your business to help set you up for success. Goal setting makes you feel more motivated and it really gets you excited about new aspects and direction that your business can expand on.
But how do you set goals? How do you stay on track and achieve your goals?
Today we are sharing with you how we go about setting business goals, and giving you some tips on how to achieve them.
1. You’re running a marathon, not a race
When coming up with your business goals, it’s important to remember that you won’t achieve your goal overnight, in a week, in 2 weeks. It takes time, patience, and hard work. One mistake that happens often, is that people will set themselves too many goals. This can make you feel extremely overwhelmed and will most likely result in you giving up, or not giving 100% to achieve your goals, you just want them done.
2. Be SMART
When setting your goals, one (and probs the most effective) way to set goals that can be achieved is to be SMART. And no, we’re not saying to increase your IQ, although if that’s your flex then by all means go for it! SMART is an acronym and strategy that is used to help achieve goals that you set out.
We are talking about being Specific in what it is you want to achieve, Measurable so you know you’re on track, Achievable in what you need to do, Realistic so you actually can achieve it and lastly the timeframe you want to kick that goal by.
3. Write down your goals
By writing your goals down, whether that be a piece of paper, on your phone or on your computer, it really helps you to keep yourself motivated and determined to reach your goals. Having them written down makes it become physical and tangible, and let’s be honest, when you can cross off the goals that you have achieved really makes you feel soooo good.
4. Celebrate the little wins
Have you completed three tasks this week that has helped to achieve your end goal of the month? AH-MAZING! You go Glen Coco! Why not celebrate this, finish work an hour early for the day, go out and #treatyourself ! By celebrating the little wins, it keeps you motivated to keep going with your goals and also prevents you feeling burnt out.
5. Don’t think of the wrong path as a failure, it’s a lesson
In some cases, you might determine that a certain goal that you have set out and started working towards, isn’t the right way to achieving your goal or you’ve realised that it just doesn’t work for your business, and that’s ok. Take this opportunity to sit down and re-evaluate a more effective way to achieve your goal or a more effective goal all together.
And if we have learnt anything from the past year, it is that, your own mental health is the most important thing and you need to protect it all costs, so if after reading this, you felt overwhelmed and you are just want to switch off for the year, just do this one thing, take a step back and think of ONE goal you would like to achieve in the new year, then write baby steps to get you there that you can achieve, you can thank us later, because we always want to be moving forward in our business and goals is the way we get there.
